Start on a path to improving your health and wellness through balanced nutrition!

Our partners at Corporate Wellness Nutrition shared their advice on how to make healthy habits a success in the new year. These tips from a registered dietitian will help you get on the right track to maintaining your health.

1. Start the New Year Right with Breakfast

Start with a balanced breakfast that includes a source of carbohydrates, protein, and produce for steady energy to start the day.

2. Get Familiar with Nutrition Labels

Consider reviewing the nutrition labels of foods you eat regularly over the course of a week. Look at things such as: What is the serving size? Servings per package/box? Sodium amount per serving? Fiber amounts.

3. Prioritize Plants

Plan and build your meals around plant sources- legumes, beans, whole grains, and produce. Try one meatless meal a week using beans as the protein source.

4. Practice Mindful Eating Strategies

Plate your meals and snacks (including dessert) and sit down to eat these. Bonus: step away from your phone, computer, tablet, or other distracting technology to mind-fully enjoy the eating experience.

5. Pick Up Produce

Add a serving of fruit or vegetables to each meal and snack throughout the day. This can easily help you hit those 5 recommended servings per day and added bonus- increase your daily fiber intake. Try a handful of spinach in your eggs or a side of fruit with breakfast, pack an apple to pair with lunch or to have a snack later in the day, and think about adding a salad or a steamable bag of vegetables to dinner.
