The Y is opening its doors and welcoming 7th graders with an opportunity to join for FREE

[PHILADELPHIA, PA] September 2, 2014 – The Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA is gearing up for the school year by offering FREE one-year memberships to local 7th Grade students. With access to 17 branch locations, swimming pools, basketball courts, fitness classes and more, the Y is providing 7th graders with an opportunity to develop healthy habits and connect with new friends through the 7th Grade Membership Initiative.

As youth begin to face the many challenges of adolescence, they are more likely to begin distancing themselves from formal organizations, friends and family, and to experiment with unhealthy and illegal behaviors. The purpose of the 7thGrade Membership Initiative is to provide an opportunity for the Y to engage, cultivate and connect with youth at a time that is most crucial to their development. “By providing 7th Graders a safe environment to make new friends, discover healthier lifestyles all while having fun, we are paving the way for brighter futures for each and every one of them,” said John Flynn, CEO & President of the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA.

Since being launched in January 2010, more than 10,8347th Graders have received FREE memberships to the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA. Registraion for this free program is as simple as bringing in proof of 7th grade status (a class roster or report card), along with a parent or guardian to any location of the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA. Upon completion of the application process, the FREE one-year membership will be awarded.
