Pottstown Health & Wellness Foundation Gives Back To The Pottstown YMCA And Kids In The Local Community
Pottstown Health & Wellness Foundation awards a $35,000 grant to provide a unique youth fitness course for kids.
[POTTSTOWN, PA] July 11, 2014 – The Pottstown YMCA has received a $35,000 grant from the Pottstown Health & Wellness Foundation to build a dedicated fitness space for youth members.
Through a matched gift program, the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA will commit another $35,000 to fund the 1,000 square foot room, according to Dan Albert, Executive Director, Pottstown YMCA.
Construction is part of Phase II in a $2 million revitalization project that began in 2013. The renovation includes updated and expanded program space, new wellness center, expanded lobby, and other cosmetic changes to the 45 year old facility.
The youth space is unique to the community and will house an obstacle course including rope bridges, tunnels, cargo nets, bouldering walls and more.
“This new equipment will entice kids ages 8-12 years to stay active and provide a safe place for them to play all year long,” says Albert. “Health and wellness education and fitness incentive programs will also become part of the youth programs offered in the new space.”
“I would like to thank the Pottstown Health and Wellness Foundation for their commitment to funding nonprofit organizations like the Y,” Albert said. “With the support from the Foundation and the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA, we are able to continue developing our youth through fitness programs and build something in which we can all be proud.”
The Pottstown YMCA has set fall 2014 as a completion goal for the new youth fitness space.
