Child Development Center (CDC)
The Christian Street YMCA CDC is licensed by the State of Pennsylvania and currently rated STAR 2 by Keystone STARS and participating in the Success by 6 initiative through the United Way. Utilizing the Creative Curriculum and learning through play, the teachers provide experiences focused on developmentally appropriate practices in education and character development. The daily program includes learning centers incorporating reading, writing, math, computers, and science. In addition to outdoor play, large and small group activities, story and music time, cooking, art, swim lessons, gym, and field trips.
All parents have the unique opportunity to participate in their child’s classroom as the “helping parent” on a regular basis. They see the curriculum develop, watch children interact, and gain a perspective on the work of our teachers. Most importantly, our parents’ presence demonstrates the value of the program and their commitment to lifelong learning.
Children are accepted throughout the year on a space available basis. Payments are due 10 days before the week of service. A non-refundable Program membership is required of all participants. What to Expect:
- Full day program runs from 7am – 6pm.
- Parents are encouraged to be involved in their children’s learning experience as a partner in education.
- The center is staffed through carefully selected teachers whose educational background, enthusiasm, and talent create an atmosphere that is fun and enriching.
- Are housed in a licensed facility that is safe, clean, and attractive.
- Combine exercise for the body, challenge for the mind and inspiration for the spirit.
- A stimulating environment filled with texture, sights, and sounds.
- A curriculum that includes: language development, reading and math readiness, love of the fine arts, gross and fine motor development, and socialization.
- Lessons that incorporate individualized learning needs, observations, assessments, and conferences with parents.
- Meals and snacks provided.
Full Day Older Toddler Pre-School (25-36 mo.)
The program is committed to providing a safe, supportive living and learning environment for young children. Teachers create a warm and loving atmosphere while offering a developmentally-based, engaging curriculum where children can play, discover and learn. The staff values each child’s unique personality and temperament. The development of independence, trust and initiative is fostered through a balanced program of free play and structure, quiet and active play, and group and individual time.
Time: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Full Day Pre-School (37-60 mo.)
This program offers a rich, supportive learning and socialization environment for pre-schoolers. Social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth is fostered through a balanced, developmentally based program. During circle time, pre-schoolers will focus on learning concepts, such as numbers, colors and shapes, through songs and stories.
Time: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Full Day Pre-Kindergarten (4-5 years)
Preschool Prep gives us the opportunity to set the stage for a child’s success in school and in life. Preschool Prep is a content-rich program that supports active learning and promotes progress in all developmental areas. Preschool Prep believes that children learn best when they are actively involved in learning projects. Learning projects include creating a classroom garden and their own story books.
Time: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Philadelphia City Pre-K
Philly Pre-K is a Pre-Kindergarten program for children ages 3 to 5 yrs. The program is funded by the City of Philadelphia, and is free to children and their families who reside in Philadelphia. Children will benefit from a quality, engaging and developmentally appropriate program that ensures that every child participating is ready to enter school at the appropriate time.
Before & After School Program

Keystone STARS is the state initiative that encourages and supports Early Childhood programs to develop and sustain higher levels of quality, in order to strengthen outcomes for children and families and improve school readiness.
