We offer a variety of different training groups that fit nearly every level of competitive or developmental swimmer.

The program is led by a coaching staff with a unique blend of skills, passion, and experience.

COMPETITIVE

Tornado Swim Team | Burl-Riverfront YMCA

The Tornado Swim Team is a competitive team designed to continue developing technique and stamina in a competitive environment.

2017-2018 Fall Season: Sept 15 – March 9

Experienced coaches will work with swimmers in and out of the water to help them improve stroke skills, endurance, and confidence.  This team functions as a bridge between development and USA Swimming, participating in the South Jersey Swim League.

All levels of the competitive team will compete in the South Jersey Swim League.  The meet schedule will be determined in September and will be disclosed then.  Swimmers are required to attend at least one home and one away meet.  Parent volunteer participation is also required during a meet, including, but not limited to donating to the concession stand, timing and other meet functions.

BRONZE TEAM

Facility Member* $500

For swimmers 8 and under, this group will emphasize stroke technique and development, introduce basic race skills, and encourage comfort in the water.  Swimmers in the Green Group will be divided into three sub groups based on skill level. Practices will be offered twice a week with no mandatory commitment to each practice.

SILVER TEAM

Facility Member* $650
Pay $100 Deposit

For ages 8 -12 years.  As the start to competitive swimming, the Silver team will help build endurance and stamina through intensive technique and interval training.  Practices will be held three times a week, with swimmers committing to attend at least two of the practices, to develop technique, build stamina, shed time, and most importantly, to enjoy competitive swimming.

GOLD TEAM

Facility Member*$750
Pay $100 Deposit

For swimmers between the ages of 10 – 14.   The Gold team will focus on continued technique development, building stamina, shedding time, and most importantly enjoying the sport of swimming.  Swimmers are required to make at least two of the four practices a week.

PLATINUM TEAM

For ages 13 and older.  Competitive swimming is an intense and passionate sport; Platinum Team will help swimmers harbor a love and dedication to the sport while training up to four times a week.  This team will help swimmers develop technique and style, while pushing them to decrease time and compete higher yardage.

DEVELOPMENTAL

Tornado Swim Club | Burl-Riverfront YMCA

The Tornado Swim Club is a non-competitive program designed to develop technique and build a love for the sport of swimming.

2018 Winter Session: Jan 5 – Mar 9

Experienced coaches will work with swimmers in and out of the water to help them improve stroke skills, endurance, and confidence.  Broken into three sub groups (based upon skill level), swimmers above the age of 5 can participate once they are able to accomplish 25 yards of swimming on both their fronts and back.

GREEN TEAM

As an introduction to competitive swimming, the Green Group will emphasize stroke technique and development, introduce basic race skills, and encourage comfort in the water.  Swimmers in the Green Group will be divided into three sub groups based on skill level.  This will allow natural development around others that are similarly skilled and progression towards a higher level in swimming.

BLUE TEAM

For those swimmers interested in competitive swimming, but are not ready to compete, the Blue Team will help develop stroke technique, stamina, and the mental endurance needed for swimming.  Meeting twice a week, the Blue team will focus on the mechanics of the four strokes, introduce legal turns and starts, use interval training, and longer yardage sets.

RED TEAM

Competitive swimming takes a lot of practice, mental determination, endurance, and is not for everyone.  The Red Group is the perfect team for advance swimmers who enjoy practices, but will not compete.  With the option of up to 3 practices a week, the Red Group will focus on continued technique development, building stamina, shedding time, and most importantly enjoying the sport of swimming.  Swimmers are required to make at least two practices a week, but will not compete in any meets other than the end of session in house event
