Ambler Area YMCA Arrows Swim Team

Thank you for your interest in the Ambler Area YMCA Swim Team Program.

We look forward to working with you and your children throughout the 2017-2018 swim team season.

The Arrows are a competitive swimming team that balances the goals of the beginner and serious athletes alike, with an environment that promotes youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Swim team practice will begin September 25, 2017. The season will conclude on February 28th, 2017. See the attached practice schedule below for specific days and times.

The Ambler Area YMCA Arrows are a part of the PennDel Swimming League. Child must be a Full Privilege Member to join the Ambler Swim Team. this program is open to children 6 – 18 years old. Swimmers must be able to swim 1 lap for freestyle with rotary breathing, 1 lap backstroke, and one lap breaststroke.

Practice

The AAY Arrows divide the team up groups based on age and/or swimming ability. This is done so our coaches can provide the best education and exercises for all of our swimmers.

This year our team will host placement days. This is not considered a try out as there will be a place for all children who meet the minimum swimming requirements. The placement days will be held on;

Monday, September 11th:  6:00-8:00pm

Monday, September 18th: 6:00 – 8:00pm

We provide practices Monday-Friday. (Please see appropriate group for practice times on the practice schedule). Once the season begins your child may be invited to participate in “Development Days”. This special practice is held on Saturday Mornings. This smaller practice is by coach’s invite so swimmers can work on specific skills in small groups. Saturday practices will being on September, 30th. They will be held only Saturdays when the team does not have a Dual Meet, Invitations, etc.

 Dry Land Training

AAY Arrows coaching staff will conduct dry-land training sessions off the pool deck. The goal of dry land training is to condition, stretch and strengthen muscles that are used in swimming while building fitness and athleticism. Dry land training is very similar to training for land based sports, however, the equipment and focus of training is slightly different. Dry land training for children should be modified for ability and age group. Dry land training will not only improve our swimmers ability but it will also create more opportunities to meet new teammates, create relationships, and reinforce teamwork. Dry land training is open to blue group and yellow group swimmers. SWIMMERS ARE ASKED TO ATTEND AT LEAST 1 DRY LAND TRAINING PER MONTH.

Swim Suits

Team suits are available from our vendor, Sports Unlimited. Swimmers do not have to wear the team suit to participate in swim meets, but they’re asked not to wear swim suits that have other organizations’ team names (i.e.: WCAC, NPY, UMLY) on them. Swimmers can use their Ambler Area YMCA team suits from previous years. The Ambler Area YMCA will host a swim suit sale in the lobby. Meet Suits, Practice Suits and other accessories can be purchased at that time. Cash is not accepted. You may pay with check or credit card.

Meets

The league offers home and away meets on Saturday afternoons. We ask that all swimmers participate in meets. However, if a child cannot participate, we ask that they be signed out of the meet one week prior to the meet date. Throughout the league many YMCA’s host Invitationals’. Invitationals’ are not required however they do provide your child with additional experience and an opportunity to improve their times. Dates and locations of Invitationals’ will be announced during the season.

The Ambler Area YMCA cannot wait for this exciting season to begin. This season brings new beginnings and we are excited to be sharing it with all of you!
