Halloween event provides healthy trick-or-treat environment for children 14 and under, while supporting the community
[Philadelphia, PA] October 29, 2014 –The Columbia North YMCA and the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation are teaming up to host a FREE healthier Halloween event at the 8th & Diamond Park, located at 2032 N. 8th Street onFriday, October 31st from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Nearly 200 children in costumes of all kinds will enjoy Halloween themed activities including a mummy wrap relay, pumpkin bowling, spooky golfing and more as staff from the Y and Department of Recreations help distribute treats. As a surprise for the community, a flash mob choreographed to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” has been organized and all present are invited to join in.
“We are excited to build upon the relationship we currently have with the Philadelphia Department of Parks Recreations,” says Janet Wright, Advanced Membership and Aquatics Director, Columbia North YMCA. “We are expecting nearly hundreds of community members to be in attendance throughout the afternoon. This Halloween event is just one more way the Y brings communities together for the benefit of the youth in our neighborhoods.”
This event is designed to provide children, 14 and under, with a safe place to experience the fun of Halloween. While the event is free and open to the community, visitors are encouraged to contribute a donation to the Columbia North Y’s Annual Campaign. These generous gifts will support families in financial need who may also reap the benefits of a YMCA membership, and programs and services.
