[Boyertown, PA] May 8, 2017 – The Boyertown YMCA is excited to announce that Colin Black was elected the 2018 Youth Governor of Pennsylvania by Youth and Government (YAG) delegates at the recent Model Convention in Harrisburg on April 23, 2017.

More than 700 students from across Pennsylvania traveled to Harrisburg to participate in this unique learning opportunity – – to simulate the legislative and judicial processes of state government.

Black was one of 100 students from Boyertown Area Senior High School in the Boyertown Y’s YAG delegation to take over the Capitol for the weekend. Participates experienced different branches of the government including lobbyists, representatives, senators and judicial along with press and administration. Students spent about 14 hours a day in chamber and committee rooms at the Capitol Building debating bills, creating newspapers, and arguing their case in judicial court.

The new Youth Governor sees his role as a way to extend his voice and practice his right to speak out for himself and support others — a voice he found after nearly losing his leg to a severe football injury. Colin focused his efforts on YAG throughout his recovery, the one area that kept him going through several surgeries to repair the damage.
