Welcome to the Pottstown YMCA Seahawks Swim Team Page! Our team offers a competitive age group swimming program focused stoke mechanics, developing versatile and lifelong swimmers.

The Seahawks offer a great opportunity to enjoy competitive swimming for everyone from the first timer to the national qualifier. To learn more, please contact head coach, Marty Zackowski, 610-323-7300, ptyseahawks@philaymca.org.

Swim team practice will begin October 2017. The season will conclude in late March, 2018.  See the practice schedule below for specific days and times.

The Pottstown YMCA Seahawks are a part of the PennDel Swimming League. Children must be at least 5 years old in order to participate. Children also must be able to swim one length of Freestyle and one length of Backstroke. The PTYS coaches hold all rights to place children in the proper group for the greatest opportunity to learn and improve.

The PTY Seahawks have five levels based on age and/or swimming ability. The levels are as follows: Little Hawks (non-competitive) Red (beginner), White (Intermediate), Blue (Advanced) and Senior (Advance/High School). We provide practices Monday-Friday Nights and Saturday mornings. (Please see appropriate group for practice times on the practice schedule). Once the season begins your child may be invited to participate in “Transition Days”. This is how we will be able to transition swimmers that are improving during the season and be able to be moved into the next group with a better ease of increased training.

Dry Land Training

The Seahawks will follow the lead of the coaching staff who will conduct dry-land training sessions off the pool deck. This is the swimmers opportunity to help strengthen their in water ability. All swimmers should have proper apparel for dryland every night. Our goal in dry land training is to stretch and strengthen muscles that are used in swimming while building fitness and athleticism. We ask all swimmers between ages 12-14 to schedule their youth wellness orientation to allow them access to the wellness center. As always dry land training for children should be modified for ability and age group.

Swim Suits/Caps

Swimmers do not have to wear the team suit to participate in swim meets, but we do ask that they wear the team cap that will be provided to them. Swimmers can use whatever suit they want for practice or competition as long as it doesn’t not have logo’s from other teams.

The Penndel Swim League creates the dual meet schedule. This consists of both home and away meets on Saturday mornings and afternoons. Meet participation is expected but not mandatory. Before each dual meet the coaching staff will take attendance of those that will be there for creating the swimmers events during that meet. There will also be the opportunity of both YMCA Invitationals as well as USA swim meets. As a rule of the team, all dual meets will take precedence above these other meets. Invitationals are not required however they do provide your child with additional experience and an opportunity to improve their times. Dates and locations of Invitationals will be announced during the season.

The Seahawks team and coaching staff looks forward to another great year with new friends, great swims and many new memories to last your swimmers lifetime!

As always,
